Meet the Advocates

Anthony De La Cruz Leal hails from Durham, North Carolina (NC). Originally born in Chapel Hill, but raised in the Bull City, he always had a passion for helping other people. Throughout adolescence, Anthony found himself helping other people and advocating for his community. In high school, Anthony originally wanted to become a juvenile detention counselor. However, his interest shifted more to social work as his high journey moved forward. His greatest academic achievement was getting admitted into North Carolina Central University (NCCU) as a Cheatham-White Scholar, in addition to proposing research on the use of pornography among adolescents of color and the role family dynamics play in the high school graduation rates of students in Durham, NC. He is also a proud member of the NCCU Catholic Ministry and the James Baldwin Society. In the future, Anthony plans on earning a Ph.D. in Applied Psychology from North Carolina Agricultural and Technical University in Greensboro, NC.
